I am a lifelong creator – from my earliest days I used whatever was near, paper, crayons, scraps of fabric, buttons, yarn – and made things. I liked nothing better than receiving “how to” books for presents – only to completely ignore the instructions and figure the projects out for myself. I assumed everyone did this, and was surprised to find how many people were discouraged from making things or doing things for themselves. My goal is to revive the pleasure of making things from whatever is on hand – and in the process helping others to feel the pleasure of seeing things they have made for themselves.
By day I am a graphic designer, and usually to be found in front of my iMac or MacBook Pro. To counter this digital life, I love to make things and have a shop on Etsy with my daughter where some of them go for others to enjoy. In addition I am an NPR listening, coffee drinking, New York Times crossword-aholic, who is always on the look out for the next chance to travel. Since one passport just isn’t enough, I finally confronted my fear of the US Naturalization test in 2011, passed it, and became a US citizen in 2012.
I hope that by offering these projects to you you will feel empowered to try making something for yourself, your home, or to give as a gift. My goal is to list a project a day for a year – to provide you with a constant stream of ideas – and myself with a purpose for my desire to create!
